How to place a magic ring in a crochet chart
A magic ring is where a round starts. Place it first, then build the round around it.
Steps
Start a Freehand chart. Not sure which canvas you need? See how to choose one.
Choose the Add stitches tool (or press B on the keyboard) on the left toolbar. The stitch panel opens on the right.
In the panel, open Suggested Stitches and choose Magic ring.
Click the canvas where you want the ring. It is drawn there.
Place your standing chain next to the ring. In a round of double crochet, chain 3 counts as the first double crochet.

Good to know
The magic ring is not a stitch
Chain One draws the magic ring like any symbol, but never counts it as a stitch. Your stitch counts include only the stitches you work.
Every round starts with a standing chain
Chain 3 at the start of a double crochet round is the first stitch of that round. A round of 12 double crochet is the standing chain plus 11 stitches.
